During my first year at the AFI, Conservatory I had the opportunity to pitch an original concept to my peers and form a team of collaborators to produce a short film. The produced short, CAIN & ABEL is not eligible for distribution, but it is archived at the American Film Institute.
The idea spurred from a proposed collection of adapted biblical stories in which the narratives were re-written from a queer perspective. CAIN & ABEL was the favorite concept— its violent plot turned sexual appealed to filmmakers— and so that is the script I developed. The duality of sex and violence is subverted by Cain’s imagined reality, which allows the reader to consider a classical story from a different (even if perverted) perspective. I am interested in exploring underrepresented experiences, no matter how twisted they might be.
